The path of the Monk is a difficult one, especially as there is no one solid build/rotation.
The key thing to remember about the monk is that it is a versatile class to play. With skills such as fist of wind, fire and earth you can switch between speed, attack and defensive prioritisation during battle.
A basic rotation that I found a while back and has been working for me is.
Get in to Fist of Fire.
Combo 1: Perfect Balance, Snap Punch, Snap Punch, Demolish, Dragon Kick, Twin Snakes, Touch of Death
Combo 1 should only be used at the beginning of the battle as this gets all your DoTs out and raises greased lighting.
You should them move around to the rear and follow Combo 2.
Combo 2: Bootshine, True Strike, Demolish, Touch of Death, Fracture
At this point move back to the flank and apply Combo 3.
Combo 3: Dragon Kick, Twin Snakes, Snap Punch
Moving back to the rear:
Combo 4: Bootshine, True Strike, Snap Punch
And now back to the flank:
Combo 5: Dragon Kick, Twin Snakes, Snap Punch
Repeat Combs 2,3,4 & 5
Now although snap punch does more DMG from the flank, its in with combo 4 at the rear because its easier to remember to switch position after every third move rather than 5,3,2,4
Alternatively if your not in the mood for putting in the effort to move between combos then don't feel like you need to. Just so long as you don't stand in front of the mob :)
Obviously pop you’re off GCD (Global Cool Down) skills in-between combos as to make of the most them.
I find it best not to pop them all at once and try to work them in between combos 2 and 3 as to spread them out.
Now the thing to remember is that everybody will have a different view of how to play there monk and there are a few different guides out there with different rotations, this is just the one that works for me.
Following on from the basic rotation combos, here's a list of the apparently BiS gear for monk from 2.1
Weapon!!! - Allagan Baghnakhs (Turn 5)
Head - Allagan Visor of Striking (Turn 4)
Chest - Melee Cyclas (825 Mythology Tomestones)
Hands - Melee Gloves (495 Mythology Tomestones)
Waist - Allagan Tassets of Striking (Turn 4)
Legs - Melee Gaskins (825 Mythology Tomestones)
Feet - Allagan Sollerets of Striking (Turn 4)
Neck - Hero's Necklace of Slaying (375 Mythology Tomestones)
Ear - Allagan Earrings of Maiming (Turn 1)
Wrist - Hero's Bracelet of Slaying (375 Mythology Tomestones)
Ring - Allagan Ring of Maiming (Turn 4)
Ring2 - Allagan Ring of Striking (Turn 1)
Again, this is just the guide that I've been following and working towards. It is in no way the be all and end all of monk guides.
Now this gear may be a little far off for those who have just started, so its probably best to start by running the crystal tower like I did to get your fuma set. While running this spend the myth on the required accessories as you can see above some stay with you and others get replaced. But seeing as they will most likely be your lowest ILvl gear, its a good idea to get shot of them first and then start piecing together your myth gear.
Once you've got your set of myth you will be able to run the turns to grab that allagan gear
Now you may feel you don't want to waist your time getting the get that your only going to replace later. But remember that your going to need that ILvl to get in to the runs.
As a final disclosure, this guide isn't mine per say. It is more of an amalgamation of the guides I have been following. Every body is going to have there own opinions of how monks should be geared and played. Iv seen so many discussions about crit hit rate and skill speed. So if there's anything in there horribly horribly wrong, let me know XD….
