The series tells the story of the aftermath of a global invasion by several races of extraterrestrials that neutralizes the world's power grid and technology, quickly destroys the combined militaries of all the world's countries, and apparently kills over 90% of the human population within a few days. Survivors of an alien attack on earth gather together to fight for their lives and fight back. Aliens have invaded and devastated the world. Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) is a history professor with his sons Hal and Matt. His other son Ben has been captured along with many other kids. The aliens use a mind-controlling harness to put the kids to work. Boston is lost and Tom is given second-in-command of the Second Mass. The group includes supportive leader Captain Weaver (Will Patton) and pediatrician Anne Glass. Tom recruits criminal John Pope, Maggie, and others. The alien invaders are skitters, mechs, and the Espheni. Another alien race Volm arrives and the Espheni plan is revealed.

This is solid alien invaders affair. There is plenty of action for a TV show. It's better than most shows and at its best, almost at a theatrical level. It does struggle at times with some soapier elements. At other times, it's a lean mean action machine. This is sci-fi for the masses. The designs are intriguing enough. There is a body horror element that is never pushed to its limits. That's the show. There are lots of interesting elements but the show could never push these elements to their highest possible level. For example, Noah Wyle is a good TV actor but he is always going to be a TV actor. No matter how big the action gets, Noah can never command the screen as a bigger star. The show is usually not cinematic in its style or its scale. OMG the first 3 seasons were awesome, but happened to the storyline to the 4th?!! Lexi's character is really cheesy. The 4th season is cheesy! I'm on the 4SE7 and I keep hoping the storyline gets better. I'm so disappointed in this season. Please, fix it!! Season 1-3 would be 10/10, but 4th season 2/10. I'm sick and tired of all the characters so fixated on Lexi. It so irritating. It's like they are all obsessed. Even the dialog seems to be so predictable. Did the writers run out of ideas? what happened?! This show started off so well and put together. Action packed and I loved all the characters. It kept me captivated, now its so boring. I hate to sound like a broken record, but in order for me to post this I need 10 lines, which is Bull-crap
